Autonomous Soft Robot

September 4th, 2014 by

Researchers from Harvard University of Massachusetts and Cornell University of New York have developed an autonomous, mobile robot. The robot is a non-rigid, shape-changing robot that walks on four legs, can operate without the constraints of a tether. Development of the robot included research into composite materials, design features, and fabrication methods focused on a soft robot capable of functioning for several hours using a battery pack or for longer periods with a light-weight electrical tether. In addition, the robot is able to carry payloads of up to 8 kg.
