Wireless Charging

While wireless charging has been available for some time, it has required specialized devices since different companies made use of different approaches.  Now the industry is starting to coalesce around a variant of wireless charging, and one that has a much greater range than the average wireless charging pad.  The foundational technique belongs to Witricity of Massachusetts.  In February, Witricity and the industry alliance, Alliance for Wireless Power, came together to reach some understandings, and as a result, many of the industry participants are adopting the technology.  Even the Alliance for Wireless Power has recently launched a consumer brand of longer-range wireless charging devices called Rezence.  For wireless charging, a current is passed through a coil to generate an electromagnetic field, which creates another electric current in a coil in a nearby device, which is normally in close proximity.  In the newly accepted technique and Rezence, using a technique called highly resonant technology, the sending and receiving coils are tuned to resonate at a specific frequency, which allows charging at greater distances.  Additionally, the highly resonant technology technique can charge multiple devices with different power requirements at the same time and charging occurs regardless of the presence of metallic objects.  The system uses Bluetooth for communications between Rezence wireless power receivers and Rezence charging surfaces.
